Slogans without substance won’t solve core issues on the ground: Kultar Sandhwan

-- 07 March,2019

Chandigarh, March 7

Aam Aadmi Party has said by merely chanting of revolutionary slogan like ‘‘jai jawan, jai kisan slogan’ won’t resolve the core issues of farming community as they continue to haunt them like never before.

In a statement issued from party in Chandigarh here on Thursday, Kotkapura MLA and chief of the party’s kisan wing, Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that it was due to the insensitive stance of the government towards their core issues and concerns that had aggravated.

He said that unless the government shuns its pseudo stance towards the farmers and the issues they had been wrestling with for over the years, they would continue to suffer.

The Kisan leader said that farmers were not getting remunerative prices for their produce as a major chunk of their profits was being pocketed by the ‘middlemen’. Head over heels in debt, the poor souls are left with no option but to resorting to commit suicides. Given the figures of deaths due to suicides that have taken place during the two year regime of the Captain Government, the situation was uncomfortable, he said.

He urged the government to, instead of showing them the greener pastures, should do a precious little to address the farmers issues to saving precious lives as much blood had been shed by the community.

He demanded that that the Punjab government should take a cue from the Delhi model and immediately implement the much-awaited recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission to apply balm to the festering wounds of the farmers.
