Tainted Khaira has no moral authority to seek extended house sittings: Sikki

-- 20 November,2017

CHANDIGRAH, November 20: Punjab Congress general secretary and Khadoor Sahab MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki today said that the tainted legislator Sukhpal Singh Khaira had no moral authority to seek the extended sitting of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

“It is ironical that the person whose moral right to sit in the house (Vidhan Sabha) is questionable and uncertain is seeking extension in its sittings”, Sikki said in reaction to Khaira’s demand in this context, while remarking it was ridiculous.

The Congress legislator said, Khaira should be thankful to the Speaker for granting him an audience. “Otherwise a tainted person carrying the stigma of being involved in drug smuggling has no right to enter the sacred precincts of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha”, he said.

Sikki said that Khaira also knew that his days as the leader of the opposition in the Vidhan Sabha were numbered as the revolt was already brewing within his party and his defiance was not going to last long.

He observed that Khaira, apparently having got the hint of his marching orders had even started questioning the party’s senior leadership by bringing in the cases being faced by Delhi health minister Satyender Jain.

Sikki quoted Khaira openly having said that if Mr Kejriwal was shielding Satyender Jain, who is also facing serious charges, how can anybody expect him (Khaira) to resign.

The PCC general secretary maintained that the drug taint was to serious and stigmatising for Khaira to wash off easily. “No matter what alibi Khaira takes in his defence, he already stands exposed in the public and his trial now in the court will prove to be the last straw on his back”, Sikki remarked.
