Uproar in Punjab Assembly as Khaira raises sand mining issue

There was uproar in the Punjab Assembly after AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira raised the issue of delay in presenting the action taken report in the Narang commission.

Khaira and Rana Gurjit entered into an altercation after Khaira took Rana’s name in the mining case.

Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and SAD leader Bikram Majithia joined the argument.

After Khaira talks of ‘involvement’ of Rana Gurjit in the irrigation scam, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh said the investigation in the irrigation scam was still on.

Congress MLAs continued to create uproar in the House.

Health Minister Brahm Mohindra and other Congress MLAs cornered Khaira on his reported statement on the involvement of all Congress MLAs in sand mining.

The treasury benches demanded that the House proceedings of the Khaira statement should be seen.

Amarinder said there would be no report on sand mining in the ongoing Assembly session as the matter was still under investigation.

AAP MLAs staged a walkout, raising slogans against the government.

The CM said since the government is not satisfied with the earning from auction of mines, a cabinet sub-committee had been set up to suggest ways to increase revenue and provide sand and gravel at affordable prices.

The CM said development tax would be deducted from the income tax payable by the income tax payee.

The CM announced to allow student elections in colleges and universities. It is being done after 25 years.

The CM also said Mandarin would be taught in government schools.

As soon as the CM ended his address, Bikram Majithia raised the issue of leakage of the STF report by Navjot Sidhu.

On this Sidhu entered into an argument with Majithia

The CM in a media briefing said the leakage of the STF report would be probed.
